PUBLIC SPACE — ADAPTATION
Hlinik playground is a popular place for local residents in the Mařatice district in Uherské Hradiště. The ongoing climate change have a significant impact on public space and green areas in the city. The assignment of the project was revitalization using the conclusions of new documents, especially the Adaptation Strategy for Climate Change and the Smart Strategy, and at the same time the creation of a high-quality urban space that will create comfortable space for local residents.

ARCHITECTURE
We wanted to leave an area for sports and play elements for children, but also to create a place where neighbors could meet and organize joint events. Therefore, a small cobbled square was created in the SE corner, which connects to the existing sidewalk and grassy field, and in the northern part is finished with residential stairs. Steel umbrellas with a small rainwater fountain form a dominant feature in the middle of the square. The game elements and objects of the technical infrastructure are complemented by colorful wooden additions that connect the above-ground buildings into a unified form. A public toilet facility with a tool room is newly added, in which garden furniture, sports equipment or, for example, a shared grill are stored. The original monotonous insulating greenery is supplemented with new trees and bushes, and the short-cut lawn is replaced by higher meadow grass, which is more visually attractive and more resistant to climate change.
SUSTAINABILITY
The existing grass field dries out a lot in the summer and the grass gradually disappears from the area. The greenery lacks diversity, the are only only hornbeams, and the rest of the area consists of short-cut grass that is unable to retain rainwater. Water is not accumulated from any building or paved surfaces. All the mentioned principles and their countermeasures are mentioned in the Adaptation Strategy of the city of Uherské Hradiště. In our proposal, rainwater is diverted from the area of the square into a storage tank and is further used for automatic irrigation of the grass field. The steel sculptures of umbrellas collect rainwater for a small fountain, which thus influences the microclimate in their surroundings. The newly roofed buildings and the tool room are equipped with PV panels and all the water from the roofs is accumulated for toilet flushing. New greenery will be planted in substrates that are more resistant to drought.
