WAREHOUSE — GARDEN
The Gastro Mach family company is based directly in Jeseník where it’s strongly rooted in the local traditions and ties. The owner's vision was to expand the company's storage facilities so that the new building was in harmony with the surrounding nature and respects the values on which the company is based on.
New indoor buildings are often built on a greenfield land made of materials which are artificial, composite and usually almost non-recyclable. That’s why at the end of their service life only construction waste remains. In this project, we aimed to design a sustainable and circular building that will have zero emissions and build on its unique surroundings.

ARCHITECTURE
The warehouse is designed on the former parking lot, so it does not take up free land. It has a solid wooden roof and wall structure. The walls are covered with translucent polycarbonate to use the most of daylight. On the south and west facades, the polycarbonate will be shaded by climbing plants. The warehouse is designed to be easy to disassemble and the individual components can be reused in future.
We used only 7 materials for the construction, all of them in natural form so that they can be recycled or biodegraded at the end of their service life.
SUSTAINABILITY
New warehouse buildings are often built on a green field made out of materials which are artificial, composite and usually almost non-recyclable. The main goal of the proposal was to achieve carbon neutrality, which means that the emissions associated with construction were completely compensated.
Therefore, we assessed the construction using the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method and selected materials with a low carbon footprint. We offset the rest of the emissions by using biochar in new green plantations. The hall is located in the existing garden and all the water from the roof is drained into the rain garden and the surrounding greenery on the plot.
